Share club meeting #2 was held at Brad's place in Essex on the 15th April. Thanks to Brad for the hospitality and the plate smashing entertainment that followed. Here are the main points from the meeting:

We agreed that each of the club's investments should have a champion to report back on news, performance and future direction of companies. This should include a report on how they have performed relative to their sector and the obligatory graphs, of course. Champions for the current shares are:

We discussed that the ProShare Analysis Toolkit was of interest for the future but that we were not committing to buy it at this time. Decision carried forward to next meeting.

New Share Suggestions
FibreNet (James White)
EasyNet (James White)
Eidos (Alistair)

Action: Report at next meeting with more in-depth analysis of those shares suggested.

 

Investment Trusts
Action: On Alistair to provide concise information on suggestions and details gathered so far.
Action: Alistair to be Investment Trust Champion.
Action: On Alistair to provide concise information on unit trusts also acquired.

James Richardson provided an article by the AITC on free forums being run around the country over the next 9 months. Alistair to pursue reserving a place.

International Share Clubs
Janine has contacted a couple of share clubs one of whom comprises of students that is of particular interest with the scope for common ground. Information to be exchanged with the view of expanding out portfolio into the French market in the future.
Action: Janine to carry action forward as French share club liaison champion.
Marc gave his apologies. Action: Marc committed to prepare material for the next meeting as German share club liaison champion.

Share Club Administration
Sharing workload James currently has the majority of the load for Share Club Administration. At the October meeting James will hand over treasurer responsibilities to another club member pending voting.

Unit valuation System
In order to make member's share calculations easier in the event of new member joining and existing members leaving we have agreed to adopt the ProShare unit valuation method.

Actions carried forward for next meeting

  • Allocate Champions for alternative investment vehicles. Unit Trusts etc…
  • Decide on acquisition of ProShare Analysis Toolkit.
  • Vote on appointment of new Share Club Treasurer in October.
  • Review sale of Boots.

Date of next meeting: Saturday 1st July - 1.00 PM in Torquay, Devon.
