Bradford
Grads Share Club -
Minutes of meeting 3. 1st July 2000 Paignton
Present: Brad Flack, Ken Izzard,
James Richardson, Alistair Lanfear
Apologies: James White, Marc
Pascoe, Simon Liversidge, Janine Gratrix
Updates from champions
- most were absent, but following on from this, Alistair suggested that
we build up a reasonable sized portfolio in order to have a decent diversification
of shares. In order to do this, we would need a decent number of shares
(up to 20) and shouldn't be thinking of selling yet.
Shares under review- Hawtin, Centrica and Telewest have been dropped
since the last meeting. Internet music remains of interest to James and
Ken is following this. Tax forms - James handed out the relevant
forms to those who were present at the meeting. If you need to do your
own evaluation, you will need to include these. Those who were not present
can pick them up next time. You also still owe James money for renewing
the proshare membership.
New account - James has yet to open a new dealing account for us,
because we might as well wait until we've chosen a share and can benefit
from whatever offer is running at the time. Accounts: Alistair
asked James to provide a more detailed explanation of how the accounts
work. Brad will take over the accounts as of the next meeting.
Investment trusts - Alistair talked about unit trusts and investment
trusts and pointed out the better vendors as per the top performers in
the FT. In due course he will send out information on investment trusts
in general and the trusts he has selected. As an alternative / supplement
to this, James suggested using tracker funds to follow the performance
of foreign markets over the long term.
Futures: Simon was actioned with sending out an introduction to futures,
which was received before the meeting. Nice one Si.
Technical analysis: James actioned with sending out technical analysis
info.
Other clubs: Updates were given on contact with other clubs, although
little useful info was yet obtained. Brad to further contact the club
he spoke to. Ditto those not present. Ditto foreign clubs.
Proshare evaluation toolkit: All present agreed in principle to purchasing
the toolkit.
Proshare club competitions: Alistair has since taken on role of competition-entering-guy.
Questionnaire: James handed out a questionnaire designed to refine
our strategy. Everyone has since completed this and the results sent out.
James to draw up strategy from the results. This, the evaluation toolkit
and technical analysis will hopefully help with share choice.
Actions:
New: All to contact other clubs about how they operate.
New: James to provide more detailed explanation of accounts.
New: James to draw up strategy from questionnaire results.
New: Alistair to take on role of entering all competitions open to us.
C/F: Alistair to send out general investment trust information and specific
fund info.
C/F: Marc / Simon / Janine contact foreign clubs.
C/F: Allocate investment vehicle champions
Simon to send out futures information - completed.
James to send out technical analysis info - completed.
